14 August 2006 Smith and Barrett object again to boundary changes
Ward Boundary Changes for Silverknowes and Davidson's Mains Margaret Smith, MSP for Edinburgh West has written to both the Boundary Commission and Tom McCabe MSP, Minister for Finance and Public Service Reform, to register her objections to planned changes to the council ward boundaries in the Silverknowes and Davidson’s Mains areas. Margaret declared:“Splitting an established community like Davidson’s Mains into three separate council wards goes completely against the Boundary Commission’s legal requirement to protect community ties.” The Local Government Boundary Commission proposed these changes in 2005 and 600 residents, Margaret Smith MSP, John Barrett MP, Cllr Jim Lowrie, and local community organisations objected to them at that stage. Margaret continued, “John Barrett and I have written to the Minister expressing our anger and disappointment that the Commission haven’t listened to the voices of the people of Davidson’s Mains and Silverknowes. These proposals are now being considered by Tom McCabe and we’ve urged him not to approve this proposal but to ask the Commission to re-consider it as a matter of urgency.”
Cllr Jim Lowrie and Margaret Smith MSP have both objected to the proposals WHAT YOU CAN DO The proposal is now being considered by the Scottish
Executive. There is still time to register your objections, representations
