Tesco Charity Trust Community Award
Closing dates – 31st January 2009 and 31st March 2009.
The Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards Scheme provides one-off donations of between £1,000 and £4,000. The funding goes towards providing practical benefits, such as equipment and resources for projects that directly benefit children, the elderly and adults and children with disabilities, living in the local communities around their stores in the UK. Grants for Children’s education and children’s Welfare can be applied for between 1st December 2008 and 31st January 2009, with an expected decision date of the end of April. Grants for Elderly People and adults and Children with Disabilities can be applied for between 1st February and 31st march 2009, with an expected decision date of the end of June.

Free Management Support from the Cranfield Trust
The Cranfield Trust www.cranfieldtrust.org is recognised as the UK’s leading provider of free management consultancy support to charities and non profit organisations across the country. Now celebrating our twentieth anniversary, we will provide free management support on a friendly one to one basis to over 200 charities in 2009.
What type of support is available?
We can help in many ways. Perhaps your business plan needs updating or you are considering a new trading opportunity and would like some help in planning it. You may be thinking of taking a fresh look at your marketing plan or have staffing issues (e.g. reviewing salary scales, reporting structure, team building). We would be pleased to help with these and many other areas.
To ensure each assignment is appropriately skills matched, the Trust allocates a local Project Manager to every project assignment. This enables a charity to leverage the maximum benefits from the volunteer’s time and expertise.
Who is eligible for support?
The Cranfield Trust’s management consultancy projects are available to all voluntary organisations whose primary purpose is to tackle issues of poverty, disability and social exclusion. We have been developing our work in Scotland and have the capacity to take on more projects locally.

Google Grants - Free Advertising for Registered Charities
The Google Grants UK beta programme supports organisations that "share Google's philosophy of community service to help the world," in areas including education and the arts. The programme provides free advertising on Google.co.uk to UK registered charities to help them inform and engage their supporters online. Each charity participating in the programme will receive this advertising for at least three months. For more information visit www.google.co.uk/grants/
Women's Fund for Scotland Grants
Grants of up to £5,000 are available from the Women's Fund for Scotland to organisations predominantly run by and for women. The fund is particularly keen to award grants to projects which seek to support and empower women while contributing to the regeneration of their local area. The Philip Lawrence Awards
The Philip Lawrence Awards reward outstanding achievements in good citizenship by young people aged 11 to 20. They recognise contributions to the community which bring out the best in young people, empower them to take the initiative and make a real difference to their lives and the lives of others – building confidence, promoting safety and reducing crime.
Since 1997, over 85 groups have received a Philip Lawrence Award. The outstanding results have proved that the Awards have been a huge success in promoting youth involvement in local communities, social behaviour, self-esteem and continual participation in valuable neighbourhood activities.
The inspiration for the awards is Philip Lawrence who knew that young people are capable of great acts of thoughtfulness, generosity and vision.

O2 Community Awards
Recently, O2, in partnership with the Conservation Foundation, launched its Your Community, a new community fund to enable people to make real improvements to where they live. Awards up to £1,000 will be available to support local environmental, urban renewal and conservation projects.
The fund is open to applications from all members of the public - both groups and individuals - and could, for instance, be used to hire tools and equipment, or to purchase plants, paint, signs and materials. Examples of projects that could receive funding include turning derelict land into a wildlife area or planinting flowers in the High Street.

Nomination for Individual Honours
In the United Kingdom, honours are awarded twice a year, in June and at the New Year; about 1,500 awards each time. Most are made in the Order of the British Empire with some 15% at the highest levels (CBE and above). They are awarded for all types of service including to:
- arts practitioners and administrators - actors, musicians, painters etc;
- industrialists and trade unionists;
- journalists and broadcasters;
- the Armed Forces;
but by far the largest number of awards go to those providing services to their local communities, mainly volunteers.
