Smith urges end to trend of demonising young people

A Barnardo’s Scotland poll published today showed that almost half of those surveyed agree that children are referred to as feral because “they behave this way” and that almost half don’t agree with the statement that “children who get into trouble are often misunderstood and in need of help.”

Smith delighted at Council decision on Newbridge Regeneration

Margaret Smith MSP has expressed her delight at Edinburgh Council’s unanimous decision to give the go ahead to an outline planning application for the development of housing and community facilities in Newbridge. The Edinburgh West MSP has been campaigning with other local representatives for many years for the regeneration of the village as part of the Newbridge Regeneration Working Group.

Smith demands more detail on jobs for teachers

Margaret Smith MSP has challenged the Government to provide greater detail on how they plan to improve employment opportunities for post-probationary teachers. Post-probationary teachers are those who have completed their mandatory one year of work experience after graduating from university.

Liberal Democrat MSP Margaret Smith showed her support for Alcohol Awareness Week (AAW) today during a visit organised by the Scottish Grocers’ Federation (SGF) to South Queensferry’s local Scotmid store. The Edinburgh West MSP is also urging the Scottish Government to launch a new alcohol awareness and education campaign.

Smith presses Government on funding for Edinburgh

Margaret Smith MSP has questioned Finance Secretary John Swinney in Parliament about additional funding for Edinburgh as Scotland’s capital city. The Scottish Government had agreed to look at providing Edinburgh Council with extra money and the Council recently submitted their case for this to Ministers.
