SMITH
WELCOMES NEW SAFETY MEASURES FOR CRAMOND CAUSEWAY
29/7/04
Margaret
Smith, MSP for Edinburgh West has welcomed the decision of the City of
Edinburgh Council to re-instate the Tide Timetable board at Cramond Causeway.
Following the vandalism of the previous board, there have been a number
of incidents involving people getting stranded on the island by the tide.
People left stranded on Cramond Island, which falls within Margaret Smith’s
Edinburgh West Constituency make up one third of all of South Queensferry
Lifeboat call-outs. Most recently, a group of Latvians had to be rescued
when they were trapped by the incoming tide.
After meeting with local groups, Margaret Smith had campaigned to get
the time-table board re-instated.
Margaret said,
“I am delighted that the pressure has paid off and the Council have
agreed to re-instate the Time Table Notice board. However, I would still
urge visitors to the island to act with caution, and always make sure
to check the tide times before they head out to the island”
