Smith - Wear Red for Haiti

Margaret Smith MSP for Edinburgh West today took part in a photo call at Parliament arranged to raise awareness of the suffering faced by the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. An estimated 200,000 people lost their lives in the disaster and the survivors now face an absolute crisis. Hundreds of thousands of people have been made homeless, hospitals have collapsed and water supplies are broken.

Speaking after the event Smith said:

"I know that individuals and families across Scotland have been incredibly generous in donating money to the relief effort which will help to provide humanitarian aid to those Haitians who survived, but whose lives have been torn apart.

"Today's photo was all about drawing attention to the plight of these survivors and showing our solidarity with them. Colleagues across the Chamber and many of the Parliament's staff wore red as a mark of support and respect, and I hope that people throughout Scotland will join in the RedDay4Haiti which takes place tomorrow."

RedDay4Haiti takes place on Friday 5th February. The campaign asks that the people of Scotland wear something red as a show of solidarity for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
