Police help Smith with her enquiries
25/8/06
Margaret Smith, MSP for Edinburgh West, recently met with the local
Chief Inspector at Corstorphine Police Station to discuss law and order
issues affecting the constituency, in particular police response times
and anti-social behaviour.
Margaret expressed an interest in
learning more about the particular problems the police were encountering
in the area, and later took the opportunity to spend a day with local
police officers. In a series of meetings, she received updates on issues
affecting the constituency from both commanding officers and members
of the police engaged in operations on the ground.
Margaret also visited Edinburgh Airport and was able to meet members
of the police Airport Security team and discuss the current security
restrictions in place at the airport after the recent potential terrorist
attack and the funding of airport security . She was also able to observe
members of the Police in active operation during a drugs raid.
Margaret says:
“I was very impressed with the professional attitude of the Lothian & Borders
Police to the task in hand. I found the discussions with officers very
useful and I’m sure the extra knowledge I’ve acquired will
assist me in the work I do with constituents and communities around West
Edinburgh, particularly in relation to anti-social behaviour. I was pleased
that officers I spoke to seemed pleased with some of the measures introduced
by the Scottish Parliament in relation to ASBOs and the reduction of
the amount of time officers spend waiting in court.”
