Margaret takes the plunge in Loony Dook
19/12/06
This New Year’s Day, Margaret Smith MSP will
be donning her finest Santa suit to plunge into the freezing waters of
the Forth. Alongside the other participants of the Loony Dook, she will
be braving the chilly waves to raise money for local charities.
Margaret has done it before and she knows exactly what she's letting
herself in for, but she's doing it anyway to help two good causes. Queensferry
Churches’ Care in the Community Project provides
excellent day-care services for elderly and frail residents in South
Queensferry and surrounding areas, on a shoestring budget. Oaklands School
caters for children with profound, severe and complex needs. They're
moving into a brand new school this month in the constituency, but their
plans for a sensory garden for the children were put on hold when their
funding was reduced.
So Margaret and her partner Suzanne intend to plunge into the Forth to
help them out by raising funds. As an added incentive, BAA have promised
to match every pound Margaret is sponsored, thus doubling the total proceeds.
For those who would like to help out by sponsoring Margaret, details
should be sent to: 3 Drum Brae Avenue, Edinburgh EH12 8TE. This should
include the sponsor’s name, address, and the amount they wish to
donate upon Margaret’s successful Dook. Alternatively, sponsors
can return their details via email to edinwestldp@cix.co.uk.
