Smith Survives
Dooking
2/1/07
On New Year’s Day, Margaret Smith MSP
once again braved the freezing waters of the Forth to take part in the
21st annual Loony Dook at South Queensferry. Despite the chill factor,
hundreds of people turned out, many in fancy dress, to take the plunge,
producing a wonderful carnival atmosphere. The day was a great success,
and Margaret is on course to raise around £500 ; increased to £1,000,
thanks to BAA’s offer to match the amount she received from all
her other sponsors, who included the First and Deputy First Ministers.
The money raised by Margaret will be going to two local projects: Queensferry
Churches’ Care in the Community Project, which provides excellent
day-care services for elderly and frail residents and their carers in
South Queensferry and surrounding areas and Oaklands School, which caters
for children with special learning needs.
Margaret said, “It really was fantastically cold, not even a Santa
suit could protect me. The Loony Dook is a wonderful event and the atmosphere
and local support, if nothing else, were incredibly warm. I’m delighted
that I could raise funds for these excellent local causes and I would
like to thank Edinburgh Airport and everyone else who sponsored me for
their very generous donations”.
