Smith Salutes Good Neighbours
9/1/07
These days the media is full of stories of ASBOs and bad neighbours.
As well as helping constituents living with the consequences of bad neighbours.
Margaret Smith MSP and John Barrett MP know that there are many local
residents who make a positive contribution to the lives of others.
They have decided to set up a new West Edinburgh Good Neighbour Award
to recognise their efforts.
Margaret Smith MSP said, “One of the best bits about being in politics
is the number of wonderful people you meet. So many people contribute
so much to our community and that’s why we are setting up the Good
Neighbour Award. It might be your next door neighbour who helps you on
a personal basis or it could be a local volunteer.”
John Barrett MP added, “It would be really good if we could receive
nominations from a wide range of areas - from community groups and churches
to schools. We want to hear about the people who regularly make a real
difference to the lives of others”.
The award winner will receive a tour of the Scottish Parliament, followed
by a dinner for two with Margaret Smith. Please send your nominations
in to: Good Neighbour Award, 3 Drumbrae Avenue, Edinburgh, EH12 8TE.
The closing date for the competition is 15th
February.
