Smith supports ‘Wear it Pink’ Charity Event 20/9/07 70 MSPs from all parties joined Margaret Smith in supporting Breast Cancer Campaign by wearing pink in Parliament on September 20th. As well as wearing the traditional pink tie or blouse , Members also wore anything from feather boas to false moustaches for a photocall to raise money and highlight the issue of Breast Cancer in Scotland. The event was organised and sponsored by the Edinburgh West MSP in conjunction with the charity. Breast Cancer Campaign specialises in funding independent breast cancer research projects across the UK and currently supports 13 such projects across Scotland. Commenting, Margaret Smith said: “I’m pleased that so many Members and Government Ministers joined in with today’s event, the first ever ‘Wear it Pink’ day at Holyrood. Over 3500 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in Scotland every year, making it the most common cancer in Scotland, and if caught early it can be treated successfully. It is therefore vital that we ensure the people of Scotland are aware of this issue and that it remains a priority on the political agenda. “Wear it Pink days are excellent events which take place at schools and organisations across the country and as well as being great fun they can help to save lives.” For more information on ‘Wear it Pink and Breast Cancer Campaign, or to organise an event of your own, visit the website at www.breastcancercampaign.org
