Scottish Government must confirm Forth
Bridge safety
15/10/07
Margaret Smith MSP is calling on the Scottish Government to provide
confirmation that the Forth Road Bridge is safe to use in its current
state.
Serious concerns have been raised about the bridge’s
fitness for use following the release of a Transport Scotland report
on its condition, and the Edinburgh West MSP has now tabled a parliamentary
question asking the Government for assurances that the problems highlighted
in the report do not mean the bridge is unfit for purpose.
Commenting, Ms Smith said: ”A number of local residents
have raised concerns about the safety of the Forth Road Bridge following
the Transport Scotland report and it is vital that the bridge’s
condition is closely monitored and that the public are not kept in the
dark.
“I trust that the Scottish Government will
investigate this issue thoroughly and respond swiftly to my question
in light of the seriousness of this issue.”
