Public Safety must be key to Sentencing
Reform
27/11/07
Margaret Smith MSP has urged the Scottish Government
to make public safety a key consideration as it reforms sentencing
policy.
Commenting, the Edinburgh West MSP said:
“The Scottish Government must make public safety its number one
priority as Ministers reform sentencing policy. This means recognising
that community sentences help to cut re-offending levels, but also ensuring
that the offenders who still pose a risk to communities are not left
to wander the streets.
“The Scottish Government must set out how
it intends to balance public safety with sentencing reform.”
