SNP must support Police across
Scotland
12/12/07
Margaret Smith MSP has welcomed the news that
an extra £1million
is to be allocated to Strathclyde Police.
The money will be given to help with the costs of dealing with the terrorist
attack on Glasgow Airport earlier in this summer. The extra money will
pay for staff overtime and the cost of calling on support from additional
officers.
Commenting, the Mrs Smith said:
“I welcome this extra money for Strathclyde
Police in acknowledgement of the outstanding work they did in dealing
with the terror attack on Glasgow Airport.
“It is important that when police forces have to undertake a national
role such as the response to the Glasgow terror attack, it is with full
support from the Government and not coming out of the local taxpayer’s
pocket.
“However, it is vital that the SNP also
recognise the efforts and needs of all our hard working police forces
across the country.
“Police forces across the country must
have suitable funding for the requirements unique to their areas and
demands.
“That is why I have called for recognition of Edinburgh’s
capital city status and the large number of VIP visits and events that
go on here, requiring unique police responsibilities and funding.”
