Extra cash for Edinburgh Police a victory for campaigners

MSP for Edinburgh West Margaret Smith has welcomed the news that Lothian and Borders Police Force will receive an additional £217,000 a year as a victory for all those who have campaigned for the recognition of Edinburgh’s capital city status and extra responsibilities.

Commenting, Mrs Smith said:

“I am delighted that the Justice Secretary has realised that Edinburgh needs more money for its police forces.  This is a victory for everyone who has campaigned for the recognition of the extra responsibilities that Edinburgh has as result of its capital city status.

“I wrote to the Justice Secretary outlining the extra burdens that the Edinburgh police force faces and urging him to support the Chief Constable’s request for extra funding.

“I am delighted that the Justice Secretary has listened to our requests.”
