Smith continues fight for Murder
Clear up Fund
14/1/08
Following her earlier calls for a fund to help the families of murder
victims in Scotland, Margaret Smith MSP has now tabled a motion to seek
support from MSPs for this fund and to press the Scottish Government
to deliver this.
Commenting, the Edinburgh West MSP said:
“I am calling
for the Government to set up a clear-up fund to assist those families
in Scotland who are left with the responsibility of cleaning their own
homes when a murder has taken place there, which can cost up to £3,000.
“The families of murder victims suffer
unimaginable distress and the Scottish Government should do what it
can to help families in this difficult situation. A murder clear up
fund would be a relatively small expense for the Government but could
make a big difference to those families in Scotland who lose loved
ones through murder taking place in their homes.
“I hope that a number of my fellow MSPs will
support my calls by signing this motion and that the Government will
heed our calls and allocate money for a clear up fund.”
