Smith slams Government’s
sports sackings
16/1/08
Margaret Smith MSP has spoken out against the
Scottish Government’s
sacking of Sportscotland chairwoman Julia Bracewell and Chair of the
Scottish Institute of Sport, Dougie Donnelly. The pair were compelled
to resign from their posts yesterday by Sports Minister Stewart Maxwell
following last week’s announcement about the future of the sport
agencies.
Commenting, the Edinburgh West MSP said:
“Ms
Bracewell and Mr Donnelly have both done excellent work for their respective
organisations and I can see no reason to remove them from the positions
other than as an act of revenge for having been forced to perform a
u-turn and retain sportscotland.
“This is a totally vindictive
move from the Scottish Government and yet another example of unacceptable
behaviour from them on this issue. They must stop playing politics and
do what is best for Scottish sport.”
