Smith objects to Cramond overdevelopment

15/2/08

Margaret Smith MSP has submitted objections to a further planning application for Cramond Campus. The Edinburgh West MSP has been working for many years with local residents and elected representatives to ensure the best development for the community in this area.

Commenting, Mrs Smith said:

“I am calling for the Planning Committee to reject the current application as I feel the proposals would lead to an overdevelopment of the area with negative impacts on traffic, the environment, local shops and quality of life.

“I am concerned that the developer wishes to introduce unnecessary retail outlets and office space at the expense of greenspace and community sports facilities. I am determined that work on the development of these sports facilities must be completed before any further housing is constructed. I have asked the Planning Committee to reiterate a previous planning condition to ensure that this is the case.

“I have received a number of comments from residents on this application and attended a public meeting in January, so I know that there are a number of views about the future of the site. This is why I feel the Planning Committee must reject the current application to allow greater consultation and discussion amongst local residents, groups and other interested parties, including the developer so that we can fund a sustainable solution for the community.”
