BBC investigation raises questions
about DNA databases
25/3/08
Margaret Smith MSP is writing to the Chief Constable of Strathclyde
Police Force asking him to justify the explosion in spending on DNA testing.
A BBC Scotland investigation has revealed that
Strathclyde Police’s
spending on DNA testing has risen by more than 2,500 per cent over the
last five years.
Commenting, the Edinburgh West MSP said:
“The BBC Scotland investigation has thrown
up some disturbing questions.
“I will be writing to the Chief Constable of Strathclyde Police Force
seeking justification for this massive increase in spending on DNA testing. I
expect nothing less than evidence of a correspondingly massive increase
in crime clear up rates in the Strathclyde area.”
